CHANGE OF CHARITY STATUS
Barnabus has changed to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO)
Barnabus has operated as a charity governed by a trust deed since 1996; at this time all charities were registered as standard charities. However as our income and charity grows and our activities become more diverse, we decided that Charitable Incorporated Organisation charitable status is better suited to our governance.
Also people are reluctant to become Trustees of a charity which is governed by a trust deed; this is because Trustees are personally liable if the trust gets into financial difficulties. Trustees are vital to the governance and longer term vision for Barnabus; under Barnabus (Manchester) they will be better protected and have minimal liabilities. All of this will also help us secure Trustees with new skills to take us forward.
Barnabus in its existing structure closed on 31 March 2018. As of 1st April, 2018 Barnabus now exists as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and will appear on the Charity Commission website under the registered name Barnabus (Manchester) reg no 1174410 . Our ethos as a Christian charity and our charitable objectives will all remain the same.
We have sought advice from the Charity Commission and our Bank throughout this transition and we have had to open a new bank account. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you. We have updated our One Off Donation form and Monthly Giving form in the sections under ‘How You Can Help Us’ on this website.
Please also find our new bank details below, we would appreciate it if you could revise any direct debits or standing orders you may have and consider this for any future one off donations.

Over the last 27 years Barnabus has grown from a small street outreach charity into an organisation that reflects the changing needs of the homeless and vulnerable people we serve. We trust that God will continue to guide our footsteps as we do this vital work.
