Ho Ho Ho! Santa Dash Saturday 11th December

Heaton park was the setting for a very unusual 5k run recently. Around 70 Santa's joined us for some festive fun running in fancy dress to raise funds so that we could spread some festive cheer at our drop-in at Christmas and into the New Year.

The Santa Dash was held courtesy of Parkrun who incorporated this into one of their weekly running events. We are really thankful for all their support and for all of their runners who joined us in fancy dress on the day. The event was a lot of fun and it was quite a sight to see so many Santa's taking part; Adults, Children, there were even a few red nosed reindeers thanks to some four legged friends.

Staff and Volunteers from Barnabus also joined in with the run and were there to cheer runners on, hand out medals and gave out prizes to the first Male, Female, Boy and Girl Santa's over the line. And because the last Santa to finish was so well deserved by a young lad of only 5 years, we found an extra prize for him too. It was such a fun day and considering the entry fee was minimal and it wasn't a sponsored event we raised a whopping £750 from the day.

Updated, 25th January 2011 - We're really pleased to say that we've now raised £970!

Thank you so much to all the Santa's, Santa's helpers, Rudolf's and everyone who made the day such a special event we will definitely have some fun again next year, so if you haven't worn your suit out over Christmas, keep it somewhere safe.

Special thanks go to Park Run for all their support and to the young lads who volunteered with us from the Sports4 life initiative; we wish them all the best as they continue to work towards their NVQ Level 1 qualification in Event Volunteering.
