Rumpus PR serves breakfast to the homeless, February 2014

TManchester based PR agency, Rumpus PR, teamed up with Barnabus this month by volunteering working hours to serve breakfast at the Beacon Drop-in centre over two mornings in February. The team sought help from Poplars Farm in Cheshire who donated eggs and W H Frost Butchers Ltd (Frosty’s) in Chorlton, Manchester who donated sausages and bacon, these generous donations meant they were able to serve approx 80 breakfasts, free of charge to those less fortunate.

Rumpus PR team writes; Barnabus sees around 600 visits from homeless and vulnerable people every week, and it is clear how much the Barnabus team truly care about the cause and the people they are helping. Some volunteers work in the kitchen every week and have built a rapport with many of the homeless that visit, making it a haven for them to have a hot meal and take shelter from the cold. It is noticeable how much respect there is between the volunteers and the homeless, who seem to be looking for a natter just as much as shelter and food.

We came with donations of clothing and tinned food and split into two teams, breakfast ran from 10am-12:30pm at The Beacon centre in Manchester and we served approximately 40 people each morning with a full English breakfast. We were able to get first-hand insight into the inspirational work Barnabus does to help the homeless.

With Barnabus’ services being in high demand, the need to extend their drop-in centre is imminent. To find out how you can support the charity, visit their website www.barnabus-manchester.org.uk and read the full article at www.rumpuspr.com/rumpus-serves-breakfast-to-the-homeless/

Paul Evans, Managing Director of Rumpus PR, added “With the number of homeless people in the UK having increased every year since 2010, we decided to devote our time and resources to helping out with the great work the people of Barnabus carry out on a daily basis. It was certainly an eye-opening experience, and we would encourage others with the time or resources to do the same.”
