Winner of Business In the Community North West Responsible Business Awards – Impact Award; Charity Champion

Barnabus are delighted to announce that we've won a Charity Champion; Impact Award at the Business in the Community, (BITC) North West Responsible Business Awards. Read the press release here

Barnabus joined BITC two years ago to help us connect to a wider number of businesses offering CSR volunteering opportunities. We also refer people to the BITC Back to Work program and find the support we receive through BITC absolutely invaluable. Many of the companies who engage with us through volunteering go on to fundraise for us or offer other streams of support.

Business in the Community champions integrity and responsible businesses. It was founded in Liverpool 32 years ago when a handful of local business leaders recognised they needed to do something to tackle the challenges of the time - high unemployment, declining traditional industries and disengaged young people.

Today the business-led charity has more than 800 companies in membership, reaching around 18 million employees. It is one of The Prince’s Charities, a group of not-for-profit organisations of which The Prince of Wales is president. The Awards are the UK’s longest-running and most respected awards recognising businesses that are making a positive difference to society, to the environment and a more sustainable future for everyone.

We were nominated for the award by a company called Investec; www.investec.co.uk a specialist financial company. We met a volunteering team from Investec during a BITC National Give and Gain Day at our collaborative allotment project. The team from Investec readily took on a day of transformation at our allotment; they paid for and installed new raised beds, chopped back bracken, reconstructed our compost bay and provided 3 tons of soil, seeds, feeds and tools.

Carol Price, Development Manager writes; The work of BITC is truly inspiring and the awards evening was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate some of the incredible initiatives that responsible businesses are involved in across our region. BITC thoughtfully matches volunteering opportunities to our needs and this is how we met the fabulous team at Investec and were able to benefit from their generous and energetic support. The award nomination by Investec was a real surprise, we're delighted and pray it will raise awareness of our work and open new doors of opportunity for support.

A quote from Investec Sustainability “Investec has very much enjoyed supporting Barnabus and our involvement with the Allotment in Longsight. Our experience with Business in the Community, including Give & Gain Day 2014, has been incredibly rewarding. The success stories of some of Barnabus’ clients show that this kind of help and education can be life changing. We have absolutely no doubt that the dedication and hard work in encouraging businesses to support Barnabus through volunteering has had been absolutely vital in
helping these success stories become a reality.”

A quote from BITC Give & Gain Day
Business in the Community’s Give & Gain Day is a celebration of the power and potential of employee volunteering across the world. By getting unprecedented numbers of people out volunteering on one day, we’re championing the talent, skill and energy found in business and the role it can play in helping communities prosper. In the UK over 14,000 people volunteered their time and skills to UK schools and community partners - and over 10,000 around the world – and here in the North West 1,015 company volunteers supported around 30 community partners including Barnabus.
