Who We Are
Yvonne Hope CEO
Yvonne directs staff, volunteers and resources in all Barnabus projects, with a clear vision of the Barnabus mission to serve our friends on the streets or who may need our help to remain housed. With 20 years’ experience in marketing working for large companies, Yvonne responded to God’s call to be a strong voice for and a friend to the homeless and joined Barnabus in 2012. She has two children, a very patient husband and an untrainable dog.
Neil Cornthwaite Head of Operations
Neil has been at Barnabus since March 2016 but he has served on the project in a volunteer capacity since 2010. He is Head of Operations at Barnabus and in this role he has oversight to the Beacon Drop in Centre, the ReNu Furniture upcycling social enterprise, the Allotment and our Charity shop. Neil also develops our relationships with churches all across Manchester and spends time working with other agencies in the city helping to tackle the problem of homelessness. Neil currently sits on the board for the Big Change – Manchester’s alternative giving campaign.Neil is passionate about seeing people set free into their true identity as sons and daughters of God to live from a place of freedom and to be all that God has made them to be. He wants to see our friends off the streets empowered into a lifestyle that will see them leave homelessness and rough sleeping behind them forever.
Stephen Rowley Head of Support
Stephen oversees and co-ordinates our support team, he also offers one to one support to men and women visiting our support offices. Stephen is also responsible for liaising with other support services to ensure best practice and holistic support for the men and women we see. Stephen works with individual’s with complex needs who have found it hard to find somewhere safe to live and a place to be heard. At Barnabus we are always looking at ways to house people who have found themselves street homeless and hard to reach. In addition Stephen runs group and individual sessions in HMP Manchester Prison, assessing prisoners who are due for release, providing appropriate care plans and information to reduce the risk of re-offending and homelessness.
Graham Ridge Support Worker
Graham offers one to one support to men and women visiting our support offices. He holds a bible class and prayer time at our drop-in for people who are interested and want to attend. He is also our prison worker at HMP Buckley and HMP Manchester prisons. Graham works alongside the Chaplaincy team and is involved in pastoral work, supporting chaplains in teaching courses and providing long term rehabilitation and support for prisoners facing release.
Martha Urwin Project Manager
Martha started volunteering with us in 2012 and now manages and researches new projects to help our friends move off the streets and stay in their properties. With her legal background in the housing sector, Martha is a real blessing to the men and women we help move into private rented accommodation.
Alison Hepworth Beacon Centre Manager
Alison has many years of experience working with the homeless community and has covered outreach, night shelters and also co-ordinating a church Food4all project. Alison is responsible for the day to day management, development and smooth running of our drop-in, she is also responsible for the management of our many fantastic and loyal volunteers. She oversees our creative, recreational and skill-building sessions and programs. Alison actively liaises and works alongside other supporting agencies and charities in the City to ensure; best practice, fostering opportunities and/or joint working practices to benefit the homeless we support. If you have any suggestions for new activities, training or joint working suggestions for our drop-in, Alison would be happy to hear from you.
Adam Williams Office Manager
Adam is our first point of contact representing Barnabus to the many visitors, agencies, supporters and men and women in need who contact us or come into our offices. Adam supports and assists the whole team in a very busy and often demanding office/support environment. If your company would like to organise a corporate volunteer day or if you would like to volunteer at Barnabus at our Drop-in or projects, contact Adam and he will send you information regarding volunteer roles, dates, and times.
Carol Price Head of Development and Fundraising
Carol's role is to develop Barnabus, raising awareness and seeking support, whilst communicating our social message. Carol is your contact for Corporate or Education partnerships, Fundraising, Events, Promotions, Media and all Branding Communications.
Becci Hewitson Communications Officer
Becci started out volunteering for Barnabus in the Beacon, she has since held roles managing our charity shop and the Beacon. Becci is now working alongside Carol to learn all aspects of events and fundraising and help with project management, she is building on her existing skills and learning new ones.
Annette Hewitson Head of Finance
Annette has worked for Barnabus for over 7 years. Having starting in admin she has worked in various roles until now working as head of finance. In her role she looks after all the finances as well as keeping up-to-date with the data monitoring. If you need to know anything to do with numbers she is the one to ask.
Alan Hewitson Warehouse Operative/ Driver
Alan is a great asset to Barnabus at he oversees the donations we receive; keeping them up-to-date and ensuring they are in good condition to give to our homeless friends. He also drives our van so that we can collect donations and deliver goods to our shop and our Renu project. He also helps deliver items when our friends are moving on and settling into their own homes.
Niomi Tyson Shop Manager
Niomi manages our vibrant charity shop right in the heart of Withington. Shoppers are sure of a warm welcome and the chance to buy a bargain, as well as unique or vintage style clothing, accessories and bric-a-brac. (We said goodbye to Simon Kennerley in December 2017. Niomi Tyson is our Shop Manager; please pop in to say hello and have a browse).
Peter Green and Beryl Green Joint Founders and former Directors of Barnabus
Peter and Beryl both retired from their Project Director’s role this year, following 25 years of inspiring and dedicated service. We are indebted to Peter and Beryl for their vision, commitment and most of all, their love for the homeless.
