Who We Are
Yvonne Hope Operations and Resources Director
Yvonne directs staff, volunteers and resources in all Barnabus projects, with a clear vision of the Barnabus mission to serve our friends on the streets or who may need our help to remain housed. With 20 years’ experience in marketing working for large companies, Yvonne responded to God’s call to be a strong voice for and a friend to the homeless and joined Barnabus in 2012. She has two children, a very patient husband and an untrainable dog.
Neil Cornthwaite Beacon Manager
Neil is responsible for the day to day management, development and smooth running of our drop-in, he is also responsible for the management of our many faithful volunteers. He oversees our creative, recreational and skill-building sessions and programs. Neil actively liaises and works alongside other supporting agencies and charities in the City to ensure; best practice, fostering opportunities and/or joint working practices to benefit the homeless we support. Neil would be happy to hear from you if you have any suggestions for new activities, training or joint working suggestions for our drop-in.
Stephen Rowley Outreach and Support Co-ordinator
Stephen oversees and co-ordinates our support team, he also offers one to one support to men and women visiting our support offices and goes onto the streets to encourage rough sleepers to engage with our services. Stephen is also responsible for liaising with other support services to ensure best practice and holistic support for the men and women we see. In addition Stephen runs group and individual sessions in HMP Manchester Prison, assessing prisoners who are due for release, providing appropriate care plans and information to reduce the risk of re-offending and homelessness.
Graham Ridge Support Worker
Graham offers one to one support to men and women visiting our support offices. He holds a bible class and prayer time at our drop-in for people who are interested and want to attend. He is also our prison worker at HMP Buckley and HMP Manchester prisons. Graham works alongside the Chaplaincy team and is involved in pastoral work, supporting chaplains in teaching courses and providing long term rehabilitation and support for prisoners facing release.
Darina Hladka Support Worker
Darina is from Slovakia and previously worked as a Secondary School Teacher. In 2013 she came to England and took part in a 10 month voluntary placement with the Jesuit Volunteer Community (JVC) gaining experience of working with homeless people. Darina is able to converse in many European languages, offering a much needed support to the homeless Eastern European men and women we see.
Martha Urwin Tenancy and Bond Guarantee Scheme Officer
Martha joined us in June 2016 to run our new Bond Guarantee Scheme, having previously volunteered at the Beacon for several years. She is responsible for securing private-rented accommodation for our friends who are ready to move on from the streets. Her role involves building good relationships with landlords and support agencies and assessing the support needs of tenants. She then provides support to tenants to help them make their tenancies a success. She also helps them to access the training, volunteering and employment opportunities that they need to re-build their lives.
Georgina Stirling Office Manager
Georgina is our first point of contact representing Barnabus to the many visitors, agencies, supporters and men and women in need who contact us or come into our offices. Georgina supports and assists the whole team in a very busy and often demanding office/outreach environment. If you are interested in volunteering with us at our Drop-in or projects, Georgina is also your initial contact.
Carol Price Development and Fundraising Manager
Carol's role is to develop Barnabus, raising awareness and seeking support, whilst communicating our social message. Carol is your contact for Corporate or Education partnerships, Fundraising, Events, Promotions, Media and all Branding Communications.
Rosanna Mendez Beacon Centre Catering Manager
Rosanna joined us initially on a 3 month back to work placement, a full time mum wanting to return to work with previous kitchen/catering experience. It went so well that we offered her a job and since then the guys have been treated to many hearty dishes.
Simon Kennerley Shop Manager
Simon manages our vibrant charity shop right in the heart of Withington. Shoppers are sure of a warm welcome and the chance to buy a bargain, as well as unique or vintage style clothing, accessories and bric-a-brac.
Peter Green and Beryl Green Joint Founders and former Directors of Barnabus
Peter and Beryl both retired from their Project Director’s role this year, following 25 years of inspiring and dedicated service. We are indebted to Peter and Beryl for their vision, commitment and most of all, their love for the homeless.
