How You Can Help

Volunteer With Us

We're blessed with a team of 70 volunteers. We all have different skills and as long as you're like-minded, can encourage and want to help, we would love to hear from you.

We have many different sessions at our Centre such as breakfast drop-ins, Arts and Crafts and Maths & English but are always on the lookout to offer more. Perhaps you have other skills and would like to lead a session: e.g. in drama, music, sketching, painting, teaching or perhaps photography. We also have a collaborative Allotment and Street Soccer project. Perhaps you'd like to join in at these or help out at our Charity Shop in Withington.

Please email us at admin@barnabusmanchester.co.uk or give us a call to discuss the different options available.

Due to the nature of the work undertaken by Barnabus with Vulnerable Adults we require all successful applicants to be put forward for a Criminal Records Disclosure (this however does not apply if you would like to volunteer in our Charity Shop).

Volunteering between 22nd December - 4th January
Barnabus is open 5 days and 5 evenings a week throughout the year and we rely on our faithful volunteers so that we can provide this service. Because other charities and agencies offer so much provision for the homeless at Christmas time, we close for a short period to allow our volunteers and staff a well needed time of rest.

The Beacon is closed from Tuesday 22nd December and re-opens on Monday 4th January, 2015

If you would like to volunteer over the Christmas period during the time when we are closed, please contact Lifeshare. You can download an application form from their website www.lifeshare.org.uk Lifeshare accept applications until 30 November and they are looking for people to prepare and serve food over the Christmas period and also for people to volunteer in the week leading up to Christmas during prep week when they get everything ready. You need to commit to a minimum of 2 shifts, provide 2 references and you must attend one compulsory training session. The application end date is 30 November and no further applications will be accepted after this time.

Corporate Volunteering days at our Drop-in
We have quite a few groups already scheduled in to support us during the weeks running up to Christmas. With this in mind, we would really value any support you can give to us in the New Year. Winter is such a harsh time for anyone sleeping on the streets and this is our busiest time for support work. Your team will be an incredible support to us during this winter period, please email carol@barnabusmanchester.co.uk or give Carol a call on 0161 237 3223 to register your interest and find out more.

Individuals / small groups
During winter time we are always in need of help with our appeals. Could you spare a few hours between 10am – 3pm Mon – Fri to help us sort through donated items. This is a crucial part of our work, ensuring that we always have items quickly to hand to give to those in need. Email admin@barnabusmanchester.co.uk or give us a call on 0161 237 3223
